Gran Turismo 4 - BASICS OF CORNERING: 1

1992 Honda CR-X del Sol SiR

B  License Test
3.       BASICS OF CORNERING: 1
Test Car: 1992 Honda CR-X del Sol SiR
Track: Deep Forest Raceway

Gold Time: 0’30.900
Silver Time: 0’31.500
Bronze Time: 0’33.500

In-Game Instruction:
1992 Honda CR-X del Sol SiR
We’ll tackle the essentials of the”out-in-out” racing line for this test using the first corner of the Deep Forest course. As you run flat out on the straight, veer to the outside edge of the track. Look for the curbing and the apex. If the car runs over the curbing, keep the throttle constant, because if you’re too aggressive with the gas pedal, you’ll invoke under steer. This will result in going off at the exit.

I am now on the third part of the B-License Test, and I am now one step further in the game in terms of difficulty. Well, it says”basic of cornering”. At the start, I thought it’s pretty simple, but I was fooled by it. I failed the test twice before getting the bronze trophy.

My first attempt was dumb and stupid. I knew that I was going to tackle an apex, but still I decided not to decrease my throttle and instead went flat-out. My vehicle ended up on the grassy area of the track. And on the second attempt, it was actually more of my own mistake. After exiting the turn, I aimed my car to the right edge but miscalculated my speed and went a little bit out of control. You know what happened next…

Third attempt. The moment the ”Start” signal flashed on the screen, my car went  from 4.9mph to 85mph as it nears the curb. I immediately pressed the brake before reaching the turn and it gave me enough space to maneuver my car properly as I aimed again for the right edge. I was a little bit worried that my vehicle will slide to the side, but because the car has good grip it went smoothly all the way to the finish line. I was actually hoping that I could get the gold on this one, or at least the silver, but I don’t know where I went wrong and I only got the bronze for 0’31.923. It was okay, at least I passed… LOL!

Gran Turismo 4 - ACCELERATION AND BREAKING: 2

1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo (J)

B  License Test
2.       ACCELERATION AND BREAKING: 2
Test Car: 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo (J)

Gold Time: 0’11.000
Silver Time: 0’11.220
Bronze Time: 0’12.200

The second test for the B License category is Acceleration and Braking: 2. these test is a little bit similar from the first one, because of the same objective that has to be completed to pass. The only difference is I will be driving in a longer track, which is 200 meters, double the distance from the previous track, in full speed. And this time, I will be driving a much faster and much powerful car. The 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo.

The Mitsubishi 3000GT at the starting Line
From the starting line, I have to dash to the 200-meter line and bring the car to a complete stop as near to the finish line as possible. Now, I have to be very precise here on braking, because if I hit it too early I will most likely push the accelerate button again to bring the vehicle at the right spot where it should stop. If I hit the brake a little too late, there is a possibility that the car won’t stop immediately because the distance from the starting line is greater, the rate of travel will also be faster. If that happens, I will most likely hit the cones at the end of the finish line and fail the test automatically.

Mitsubishi 3000GT
And now, the actual test. When the ”START” appeared on the screen, I pressed the X button right away. Well, according to FFBeowulf on his License Test Guide, “Do NOT NOT NOT put full throttle down from the starting line” and I must start my throttle at 4000rpm to hit a good launch. As soon as I reached the 100-meter mark, I released the X button to decrease my speed. Because of that, I knew that I can now say bye-bye to the gold and silver trophy. But that’s okay, my primary objective is not to gather as many gold or silver as I can, but rather to pass the entire license tests from B License to S License. That’s all.

At the finish line

When I saw that the blue line became red, I immediately hit the square button. And the car stopped where I expected it to stop. The bronze GT logo appeared on the screen telling me that I successfully passed the second test with the time 0’12.187.

Gran Turismo 4 - ACCELERATION AND BREAKING:1

B  License Test
1.       ACCELERATION AND BREAKING: 1
Test Car: Mazda Demio ‘99

Gold Time: 0’10.150
Silver Time: 0’10.400
Bronze Time: 0’11.300

Before I start with my first License Test, let me just say that I have learned a lot from Gran Turismo 4 online forums, which were posted by GT4 gamers since 2005. And I found a lot of helpful information and tips about the game. It’s really amazing, how some people managed to come up with those ideas, theories, strategies and all. They dedicated their precious time and exerted a lot of effort to go a very long mile just for the sake of the gaming universe.

I admire these guys, especially that guy by the name of Orion_SR. And the Japanese dude who did a lot of research about the B-Spec topic.

It took me a while to come up with my next post, because I’ve been doing a lot of reading from various forums about Gran Turismo 4. Some of them are pretty old posts, like 2005, but still very interesting to read.

And now for the License Test.

This test is basically about accelerating and braking on the right time and spot. I drove a 1999 Mazda DEMIO from the starting line. The main objective was to gain speed from the starting line and put the car to a complete halt in the blue checkered mark on the tarmac. By doing this, you also have to avoid hitting the cones.

Before I took the test, I consulted some FAQs and guides first on how to pass it. And I found  FFBeowulf’s guide in GameFAQ’s.com very helpful. I have also learned that by pressing the R3 button, it will enable the colored blue line in the road that will serve as a guide on when and where to hit the brake.  The first test was not so easy as I thought. Finding the proper moment and spot to brake was the key, in which I failed to find, that caused me from failing the test two times in a row.

The third attempt was successful, and I earned a Silver Trophy by gaining 0’10.371.
